The Beginner's Blueprint: How I'd Start From Zero

People ask me this all the time. Where do I start if I've never touched a weight?

So here's the honest answer. If I woke up tomorrow with no muscle and no clue, knowing what I know now, this is what I'd do for my first 12 weeks.

Ignore most of what you see online

Including half of my videos, to be fair. Social media fitness is entertainment. The crazy arm workouts and the secret chest routines exist to stop your thumb, not to build your chest.

What actually builds a beginner's body is boring. A few big exercises, done two or three times a week, getting a little harder over time. That's the whole secret. Everything else is decoration.

The plan. Three days, full body

Train Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Rest in between, that's when you grow. Every session is built from the same skeleton:

Three sets of 8 to 12 on everything. Rest about two minutes between sets. The whole thing takes under an hour. Most of these are broken down properly in my exercise library.

Add a tiny bit every session

This is where most beginners go wrong. Same weights, same reps, month after month, then they wonder why the mirror looks the same.

If you never ask your body for more, it never gives you more.

So every session, try to beat the last one by something small. One more rep. 2.5 more pounds. Write your numbers down in your notes app. If you're not tracking, you're guessing.

How the 12 weeks play out

Weeks 1 to 4 are practice. Keep the weights light, film yourself from the side, fix your form. You'll feel like you're not doing enough. You are.

Weeks 5 to 8 you start chasing numbers. Your form is grooved in by now, so add that little bit extra every session. This is where beginner gains kick in, and they're the best gains you'll ever get. Enjoy them.

Weeks 9 to 12, go heavier. Swap the goblet squat for a barbell. Push-ups become dumbbell presses. Same skeleton, more weight.

Food, without counting anything

Don't track macros yet. You don't need to. Three rules got me through my first year:

Just keep showing up

The program barely matters. An average plan you run for a year beats a perfect plan you quit in week three.

Go at the same time every session. Never miss twice in a row. Miss a Monday, fine, life happens. But Wednesday is non-negotiable.

Twelve weeks from now you'll be stronger in every lift and you'll see it in the mirror. The bit nobody tells you is that you'll also walk a bit differently. Start this week. Not Monday. This week.
